Commissions

St. Matthew’s operates under a “commissions” system. Our vestry (the governing board of the church) is comprised of the rector, who chairs the monthly meetings, two elected wardens, as well as nine vestry members who also serve as commissioners for the various areas of ministry and operation in the parish.

Communications

Commissioner: Sarah Alamond

The Communications Commission is responsible for overseeing all forms of communication within and on behalf of the parish, respecting the various constituencies involved, and for making sure they are implemented. These forms include Sunday bulletin announcements, the website, the Grapevine, the Liverpool Review, The Diocesan Messenger, Neighbors North, and publicity notices to local media and publications. They involve written articles and photographs for publication and display, as well as the parish website. The Communication Commission is also charged with looking into new ways to communicate St. Matthew's beyond the walls of our church.

Education

Commissioner: Annette Newlon

The mission of the Education Commission is to provide quality Christian education for children, youth and adults through adult education offerings, Sunday School and nursery, youth activities of both an educational and social nature, and the promotion of diocesan youth and adult programs, all with the intention of preparing our members to participate in the life and worship of our church and to understand and live out the Christian faith and life.

Welcoming

Commissioner: Judy Carroll

The Welcoming Commission exists to help our parish proclaim the good news of Christ as evangels to all persons and to enhance the growth of St. Matthew's Parish by seeking, welcoming and mentoring new and inactive persons to Christ as members of St. Matthew's Parish. The Welcoming Commission leads our efforts to connect with the wider community and to welcome and integrate newcomers' into the life of the church.

In-Reach

Commissioner: Mike Croyle

The Mission of the In-Reach Commission is help the parishioners of St. Matthew's to enjoy and care for one another. The In-Reach Commission will plan and implement events for the parish throughout the year that foster the development of interpersonal relationships and fun events so that the parish community is strengthened. The Commission will also help the congregation meet the needs of parishioners who are going through significant life events.

Finance

Commissioner: Dave Holloway

The mission of the Finance Commission is to develop and implement a sound financial program for St. Matthew's Parish consisting of a preliminary annual budget, records, and monthly reports including the work of the tellers, an annual audit, and supervision of the work of the Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer and the Financial Secretary.

Outreach

Commissioner: Dick Bartolomeo

The mission of the Outreach Commission is to glorify God and to assist St. Matthew's parishioners in addressing those human needs to which we feel we can respond and make a positive contribution, through faith and good works, primarily focusing on neighboring communities while remembering those in need around the world. Outreach projects St. Matthew’s engages in include:

  • Providing meals and serving at the Samaritan Center feeding program in downtown Syracuse
  • Hosting Red Cross Blood Drives
  • Serving meals at The House at 807 Senior Living Home in Liverpool
  • Waling in the CROP walk
  • Christmas Giving Opportunities
  • Holiday Baskets

Property

Commissioner: Joe Hannah

The mission of the Property Commission is to give continuing oversight of parish property and equipment and to implement preventative and corrective maintenance and provide long-term planning of the same.

Development

Commissioner: Penny Dugas

The mission of the Development Commission is to design and implement ways of enhancing the income of St. Matthew's parish, by helping the parish meet the financial needs of ministry. Areas of development include: promoting stewardship within the parish by inviting members to return to God a portion of their time, talent and treasure in support of the mission and work of St. Matthew's Parish, designing and directing the annual pledge campaign with commitment to the tithe as the goal of pledged giving, promoting and encourage giving to the Capital Campaign, educating the parish on planned giving and to promote the same, overseeing memorial gifts, and various fundraising activities.

Worship

Commissioner: Jackie Gates

The Worship Commission is an advisory body to the rector charged with overseeing the worship of the parish in its various aspects. The commission helps to plan the worship services, to schedule service participants, to provide training for participants, to evaluate worship events, and to assist in any other way that may be helpful for providing quality worship at St. Matthew's Church, under the direction of the rector.

Wardens

Senior Warden: Amy Good

Junior Warden: Bill Jones



The two parish wardens are active parish leaders, serve on the vestry, and also serve as a council of advice for the rector. They take on special projects as needed.
