Staff

St. Matthew’s is served by one full-time priest, a vocational deacon, and three other part-time positions, in addition to the many people who volunteer their time for the church.

Rector

The Rev. Carrie Schofield-Broadbent

Mother Carrie came to St. Matthew’s in the summer of 2006. She earned her B.A. in Peace and Conflict Studies and Spanish from Juniata College, Huntingdon, PA in 1997 and her M.Div. from Virginia Theological Seminary in 2003. She is married to Keith and has two young children.

Ministry specialties include: Congregational Development, Preaching, Worship and Liturgy, Christian Formation, Outreach and Mission, Conflict Resolution, Stewardship

Hobbies and other interests: Pottery, music (singing and guitar), reading, sewing and knitting, Spanish language, and travel.

Vocational Deacon

The Rev. Deacon Shelly Banner

Deacon Shelly is a vocational (permanent) deacon who was ordained in 2005 from the first class of deacons and priests that were educated through the CNY Diocesan Formation program. As a non-stipendiary deacon, she is also bi-vocational and teaches music part-time in a parochial school in Oswego .

Passionate about learning, it is never surprising to find her reading in her non-committed time. Equally passionate about gardening, singing, traveling and time spent with friends and family, her idea of a joy filled occasion is when any number of them combine

Transitional Deacon

The Rev. Jennifer Kenna

Jennifer is currently at St. Matthew's serving as a transitional deacon, her second sojourn here, having served as an intern in 2009.It is the final step before ordination as a priest in the Episcopal Church.She has a B.A. in Music from Syracuse University MANY YEARS AGO and "graduated" from the Diocesan Formation Program in 2009. She was ordained a deacon in May, 2010.

She loves Liturgy and Worship, outreach, particularly to women and children, and most of welcoming the stranger.

Hobbies and other interests include reading, knitting, cross-stitching, and spending time with her girlfriends whenever possible. She is married with three children and 3 grandchildren.

Secretary

Sue Turo

Sue runs the parish office and keeps St. Matthew’s organized and running. She prepares weekly worship bulletins, the monthly newsletter, answers the phone, and many, many other duties. She also serves as our financial secretary.

Church Musician

Tim Laughlin

Tim, a music student at Syracuse University, serves St. Matthew’s as our church musician. He plays for our weekly Sunday 10:15 service, directs the St. Matthew’s choir and chooses music for our worship services. Tim also coordinates music for our Community Eucharists.

Sexton

Bill Boylan

Bill keeps St. Matthew’s looking good. In addition to performing regular cleaning, Bill also sets up the parish hall for various activities.
