Blue Christmas Eve Service
A Blue Christmas service, also known as a "Longest Night" or "Service of Remembering," is a reflective worship service held around the winter solstice to offer healing and hope to those who are struggling with grief, loss, or loneliness during the holiday season. These services provide a space to acknowledge pain, sadness, or difficult situations, such as the death of a loved one, divorce, or job loss. The format often includes quiet music, prayer, scripture readings, and candle-lighting to honor feelings of sorrow and to find comfort together.
Contemporary Christmas Eve Lessons and Carols
Contemporary Christmas Eve Lessons and Carols are an adaptation of the traditional Anglican service, featuring modern worship songs and hymns interspersed with nine Bible readings that tell the story of redemption from the fall of humanity to the birth of Jesus. These updated versions maintain the core structure of the traditional service while incorporating newer musical styles and pieces, often popular in contemporary worship
Christmas Eve High Mass
A Christmas Eve High Mass is a solemn, formal Mass on December 24th that celebrates the birth of Jesus, often called a "Vigil Mass" or "Midnight Mass". It includes readings about the Nativity, the Eucharist, prayers, hymns, and carols. The service is often decorated and can begin in the evening, with some services traditionally starting at midnight.
Twelfth Night Party
A Twelfth Night party is a celebration traditionally held on January 5th, marking the end of the Christmas season, which involves feasting, music, and games. A central tradition is the Twelfth Night Cake, which contains a hidden bean or pea, and whoever finds it is crowned the King or Queen for the night. Other elements include caroling, merrymaking, and more.
Ours will be held on Jan 6th from 6-9 pm. This is an evening for LGBTQ+ members and allies to come together for fun, get to know each other, and the larger parish. All are welcome, and bring a friend.
